Lanes BBQ – Spam Musubi Recipe

Lanes BBQ – Spam Musubi Recipe

The Hawaiian Spam Musubi Recipe is a popular and delicious snack that originated in Hawaii. The Lane’s version is a combination of Japanese and Hawaiian flavors and features a slice of spam, placed on a block of rice, and wrapped with a strip of nori (seaweed), all with our Island Dust Seasoning. The combination of the smoky spam, sticky rice, and nori creates a mouthwatering treat. It is a perfect choice for a quick snack or to bring along for a picnic or beach outing.

To be clear this is a Lane’s version of the classic Hawaiian Spam Musubi Recipe. We are going to add some of our Southern Georgia know how to give it some extra flavor we love.

Ingredients:

  • 1 can of Spam (low Sodium)
  • Bachans Japanese BBQ Sauce
  • Lane’s Island Dust
  • Sushi Rice
  • Nori Seaweed Paper
  • Panko Bread Crumbs

Instructions:

1. Remove and slice your spam about ¼ to ½ inch thick (Should be about 8 slices) – marinate with ¼ cup of Bachans barbecue sauce and 1 tablespoon Island Dust for 20 minutes

2. Cook the rice (follow directions)

3. On a griddle/skillet add spam slices with marinade and cook on med-high for 3-4 minutes flip and cook another 3-4 minutes. Add more Bachans if needed. Remove when done.

4. Cut nori into 2 inch strips and place smooth side down. Get your hands wet and mold the rice to the shape of the spam. It should be about 1 ½ inch thick. Do not compress the rice too much. There are tools to get that perfect shape if you like. – Place the rice patty down in the middle of the nori.

5. (Optional) Add a drizzle of Bachans, Panko bread crumbs (for a crunch), and a dash of Island Dust

6. Then place the Cooked spam and wrap the nori using a smear of water to connect it. – Enjoy

Recipe Note

Other great ideas:

1. Add smoke – smoke the spam low and slow for 30 minutes indirect to get some smoke flavor
2. Add other ingredients you love – Jalapeño, pineapple, sesame, etc just place them (thinly sliced) in between the rice and the spam.
