Lanes BBQ – Caramel Pecan Smoked Apples

Caramel, pecans, and Lane’s Apple Pie rub are all quintessential fall flavors. What would happen if you took those flavors and stuffed them into an apple? The most must-have fall dessert is what will happen, and here’s how to do it!

Nothing feels more like Fall than apples, cinnamon, and caramel! These baked apples are simple and easy to make any time of the year, but on a cool September evening, this dessert is unforgettable. Scale this recipe up for your holiday gatherings and potlucks, and have your family, friends, and loved ones talking about this treat for years to come.

Ingredients:

  • Apple Pie Seasoning
  • 4 medium sized apples(any variety, we used Fuji)
  • 1 stick of butter, softened
  • ½ cup light or dark brown sugar
  • ½ cup chopped pecans
  • 8 soft caramel chews

Instructions:

1. Preheat your grill/smoker/oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. Using a paring knife, first cut out the stem area and then use a small metal spoon to scoop out the core and seeds.

3. Place 2 soft caramel chews into each apple.

4. In a small bowl, mix together the butter, brown sugar, pecans, and 1 Tablespoon of Apple Pie Seasoning. Stuff mixture into the apples.

5. Place apples into small baking dish or disposable aluminum tray and bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour, until the apples are tender, but not mushy.

6. Remove apples from tray and baste with the remaining juices from the pan, then serve.

Recipe Note

1. These are fantastic served with vanilla ice cream!
2. Use your favorite apple. Fuji, Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Jonagold are all great choices.
3. Top with extra caramel or whipped cream.
